The landmark confectioner was started by a local woman whose homemade sweets were always a big hit at her bridge club gatherings. Ruth Tharpe Hunt founded her candy business in 1921. This tin is one the factory used early on as part of its equine-themed packaging. A portion of Ruth Hunt Candy boxes were always designed to honor the Bluegrass State’s love of horses, a tradition that has gone on beyond the Hunt family’s ownership. The name “Hunt Box” itself has a tasty assortment of meanings. Connected of course with the company’s founder, yet also a nod to hunting sports carried out on horseback, and to the act of seeking a favorite candy from the sampler.
