The Fantasy Copperware company was based out of Toronto and manufactured many similar pin trays, but most of the others we’ve come across are Canada centric. Old Faithful is decidedly a tourist attraction tied to American expansionism. In 1870 an expedition led by Henry Washburn discovered the geyser and suggested its name when it became apparent that the eruptions were incredibly consistent in their timing. Word spread quickly of the fetchingly predictable show put on by this geothermal phenomenon, and the race was on to take advantage of a fast-growing sightseeing trade. Within two years the U.S. government founded the first national park on the site so that it would be protected from all damaging commercial interests. Yellowstone was established on March 1, 1872, under a national act that prevented settlement, occupancy, or sale of the land, setting it aside for the benefit of the people. The territories which the park straddled were granted statehood not long after. Idaho, Montana, and Wyoming continue to be beneficiaries of the visitor attention paid to Yellowstone and Old Faithful. People from all over the world tour the region to enjoy this result of America’s best idea (one so good that Canada followed suit in 1885): the concept of a national park.
