Hiking Guide.
From 1975, this paperback was well-sized to accompany hikers on the trail. Author Samuel Blankenship concentrated on three rugged, and as a result of their “out of the way” locations, unspoiled sections of the Appalachians. The Northern traces trails across the eastern half of West Virginia on into northwest Virginia, including the ancient Monongahela National Forest and Shenandoah. The Central ranges from the Blowing Rock, North Carolina, area on down to the mountainous north of South Carolina, and includes hiking & camping favorite: Pisgah National Forest. The Southern ranges from the Nantahala National Forest on down into the wonderful North Georgia Mountains, home to the start of the Appalachian Trail. A summary from the back cover: "32 beautiful and unspoiled trails, completely described and graded from easy to strenuous; plus advice on what to take, when to go, and what you will see along the way. Your passport to the wilderness of Georgia, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia, West Virginia + 36 maps." On an intro page, Blankenship is sure to remind his readers: “Enjoy Yourself.” [Condition: Used Very Good — Though this volume has seen some use, it was treated well; hence a step above just “Good”. Aside from the usual edge-wear and light shelf wear, the interior pages are clean, time discoloring their edges but slightly. The Tusquitee Mountains of North Carolina were paper-clipped, noting a previous owner’s favorite.]
