It can easily be said that beer has been as popular and loyal a pastime in American culture as has been baseball. But we do not root year in and year out for our favorite beers, while we tend to live and die with our favorite teams. Of course, beer and brewery ads have been with baseball almost from the start (with perhaps a brief respite in between amendments XVIII and XXI). Their ubiquitous connection makes it often seem like, maybe, beer should sub out "apple pie" in the old saying? And if only because that old saying contains baseball. The historical relation of beer and baseball has also been brought along by local breweries building up the hometown team. In this first of our baseball 6-packs, we collect many series of specialty cans put out for National League teams: Cincinnati's Hudepohl celebrating the "Big Red Machine" Reds of the mid-70s, Pittsburgh's Iron City long known for their novelty Pennsylvania / Pittsburgh sports collectible cans, and the American Brewers Historical Collection of the late 70s-early 80s—these 2 cans under the name of another once famous Pennsylvania brewery, Valley Forge—the great "Casey's Lager" series of vintage baseball legends, Duke Snider of the Brooklyn Dodgers and Monte Irvin of the New York Giants representing.
