PACIFIC + SOUTHWEST.
Home Decor / Kitchen Decor, Decorative Plate, Souvenir, c. 1940s.

Manufactured by Vernon Kilns out of Vernon, California, this original design plate was just one of a group of dishes showcasing scenes from everyday life of Southwestern First Nation peoples. “Bits of the Southwest” was in turn part of Vernon Kiln’s signature “Bits Of” run of regionally themed decorative plates. “Blanket Weavers”, like the others in its particular line, does a nice job depicting the subject matter. Vernon Kilns had an art staff in-house, and for the most part avoided depictions in this “Bits Of” line which would become cringe worthy. An example of where this was not the case can be found on ‘Mississippi’ in its state plates series. (I leave it to the reader to research this for themselves.) “Blanket Weavers” is a copyrighted design and appears on this transferware plate in a warm color palette very appropriate for its Southwestern theme. Nothing says which First Nation people are depicted, but most likely it is a Puebloan tribe as the building shown in this picture is an adobe structure.
