Souvenir Decorative Pitcher, c. 1950s.
Perfect for cream, syrup, melted butter, olive oil, or whatever would be good to pour out to make a delicious treat all the more amazing, this fetching little pitcher sits ready to serve. Fully glazed on the interior with a thick ceramic coating, it is safe for holding consumables. Whether it is microwave friendly or not, though, is up for debate. Better not to risk it as damaging such a treasure would be a true shame. Sold as a souvenir item of Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island, it is appropriately little and charming - just like the smallest Canadian province and its capital city. Appropriate, too, is the old hand-lettered style script employed to dedicate this item to that historic city. Charlottetown is called “The Birthplace of Confederation” because it was here, in the 1860s, where conferences held with Canadian and Maritime statesmen forged a union in 1867 of British North American colonies. This led to the start of the Canadian confederation. The font on this tiny vessel looks like what might have appeared on the documents from that pivotal time. Delicately reproduced in brown ink tones are the conference city’s name along with the initials of its province, P.E.I.. This all on a beautiful crackled glaze the color of which recalls a truly antique piece. Is it actually very old? We cannot verify anything for sure, but we do promise it will be a boon to your serving table or collector’s cabinet. Sweet, eh? [Condition: Used Very Good. No cracks or chips, some wearing of the ceramic glaze around the bottom.]
