Colorado 3D Souvenir Hand Painted Wall Plate

A chunky ceramic plate made for wall display, this Colorado memento charms with its colorfully painted scenes of the Centennial State. Central to the design is a bighorn ram, his low relief portrait rendered in gray against bright orange. The bighorn sheep, a symbol of Rocky Mountain National Park, is Colorado’s official state animal. The other images on this souvenir plate show recreational opportunities of the region. One person enjoys skiing as another has waded out into a woodland stream to take in a little fly fishing. The state flower of Colorado, columbine, shows a white version of its blossom at the bottom of the plate. In 1899, schoolchildren across the state were asked to select what flower ought to represent Colorado. Blue columbine won with more than 14,000 votes. Yet these days to pick the lovely flower - the name of which means ‘dove’ - is illegal. And as it grows among aspen stands at altitudes of 6,000 to 10,000 feet, maybe the best way to enjoy their multicolored beauty anyway is on a pretty decorative plate. This particular one was made in Japan and comes ready to hang, with a small hole bored through it at the upper edge.
