Home Decor / Kitchen Decor, Decorative Plate, Souvenir, c. 1950s.
Made in the U.S.A. by Nautilus, this collectors plate features a full-color montage honoring Delaware. Central to the illustrated design is the marine terminal in the state capital. The Port of Wilmington is a shipping dock which extends into the deep confluence of the Christina and Delaware Rivers. Just to the left of this is a nod to crabbing and fishing, water industries crucial to this ‘First State’ of the Eastern Seaboard. Going clockwise from the top of the montage there is the Old Powder Mill in Wilmington, then a depiction of ‘Truck Farms (Tomatoes)’ to acknowledge the state’s farming industries. Next is the Delaware Memorial Suspension Bridge in New Castle, The (Old) State House in Dover, a collection of labeled tin cans to commemorate the food packaging industry, and the University of Delaware in Newark. Above this the state flower, peach blossom, adorns a small graphic of the entire Diamond State. Rounding out the left edge of the design are Old Swedes Church in Wilmington and a bathing beauty on Rehoboth Beach. It adds up to quite a big tour of one of our small states, beautifully presented on a china plate stamped by Morgan Hopper of Somerset, Kentucky.
