Arizona Souvenir Shot Glass Naming The Historic Mining Town Of Jerome

Originally known as “America’s Largest Ghost Town” the vibrant arts community and tourist destination of Jerome, AZ, is no longer exclusively a haunt of its long passed copper mining industry. Starting in the years after this former boom town became nearly deserted, revitalizations began to turn the place into a haven for quirky shops, galleries, and restaurants. The mines stopped operations in 1953, and only a handful of Jerome’s citizenry remained when the site was designated a National Historic Landmark in 1966. Copper ore extracted from its Cleopatra Hill, and the Mingus Mountain generally, had fulfilled critical supply needs at the time electricity and telegraph lines were being installed across a growing nation. It was subsequently abandoned, but the story of this place did not end there. By the 1960s and 1970s artisans and free spirited entrepreneurs put down stakes in Jerome. We visited it ourselves in the early 2000s and picked up an engraved copper ring. It is still a reminder of those incredible views of the Verde Valley and the distant red rocks of Sedona. What a pleasurable way to be haunted by this iconic Arizona ghost town! The imagery on the ceramic shot glass here does not show any particular local scene, but the illustration of high desert vegetation and alpine plants represents the unique mix of flora found at its 5,200 foot elevation.
