Done in the iconic style of many of the collectible souvenir ceramic pieces of the time, this regional promotional item marches to a beat all its own. Perhaps to play on the notion that the Ozarks in Missouri is an area known for its music, a few cagey gift shop suppliers pitched the tambourine as a great way to stock shelves. Was it a hit? In our searching, we did not find much tambourine merch of this particular type being sold, but it might be that once they fall into happy hands they’re not often let go. A cheery souvenir, it creates the perfect match of bright illustrations and sounds. Buyers bonus if Lake Of The Ozarks holds any special significance. Shown on the thin stretched surface are visitor attractions specific to the site, such as Bridal Cave, Bagnell Dam, and Captain Larry Don’s lake excursion party boat. Also included are activities and experiences generally available to enjoy, such as water skiing and visiting an authentic log cabin. The drum head feels to be fashioned from a vinyl type material. It attaches to the tin body tightly enough to give a good snap when struck. The four cymbals are all in working order, with one adorned by four streamer ribbons. So pick up this great “Show Me State” souvenir and join in on celebrating all 1,150 shoreline miles of its impressive reservoir, made from the damming of the Osage River and called the “Missouri Dragon” for its serpentine shape. And you might do well to carry a percussion instrument should you find yourself walking any of that long, snaky shore.
