MOUNTAIN WEST.
Nonfiction, National Park Travel.

This is a high-flying buddies book about taking in the jaw-dropping and frankly sometimes otherworldly views of Utah’s Canyonlands National Park from a light aircraft. Jim Hurst was one of the first pilots to venture to this rugged area. His aviation skills were honed early starting at age 17. He served in the Air Force until 1946, and in 1951 moved with his wife Helen to southeastern Utah to run an airport. Author Pearl Baker, a pilot herself, grew up in the depths of canyon country and her love of this unusual region shines through in the telling of her flights alongside Hurst. The story of these close friends and their shared adventures while exploring this wild and challenging region from the air is a true delight. Published in 1973 and signed by Hurst, it's a book sure to sweep up the reader into the pioneering spirit with which both Hurst and Baker so lovingly approach this unparalleled landscape. Recently designated an International Dark Sky Park, Canyonlands is located nearest Moab in Utah, and it has been a National Park since 1964. [Condition: Used Very Good — Dust jacket has some slight tearing and wear likely caused by mishandling, but the volume itself is nearly pristine. A perfect spine indicates it was treated with kid-gloves.]
