THE SOUTH.
Home Decor, Pillow, 1979.
Lovingly created in 1979 by some crafty soul with the initials K. B., this plump, tassel-fringed pillow pays tribute to the Texas state flower. The bluebonnet is in the lupine family, and on March 7, 1901, one species of it, Lupinus Subcarnosis, became the only type recognized as the official state flower. Seventy years later in 1971, the Texas legislature revisited the matter and made any lupine found growing within the state that was similar to Lupinus Texensis, the true citizen fan favorite, an official Texas Bluebonnet. Eight years after this our pillow crafter put the finishing touches on their cream and blue toned creation. And it’s okay to pick this bluebonnet. It will show a great respect for the wildflower and for Ladybird Johnson’s efforts to use it as beautification planting for her own Lone Star State’s highway system. That K. B. was charmed by the beauty of this blue blossom is clear to see. Anyone would be fortunate to have such a homespun treasure in their own place, whether it be deep in the heart of Texas, or any similar space where handmade floral decor is welcome.
