A multi-generational baseball card collection was not something that just happened overnight. It was put together trade-by-trade, pack-by-pack. It took youthful optimism, chewing many hard sticks of bubble gum (that were definitely not recommended by 9 out of 10 dentists), and a whole lot of luck. That is the collection we inherited, to the tune of 10K+ cards. And that nostalgic take on the value of baseball cards led us down a different path when it came time to pass along this unique collection. Instead of maximizing return on each card, we chose to maximize the satisfaction of watching others add to, or complete collections, and those who are simply long-time fans of a team and the game get a hold of an affordable set of cards. We want these cards in the hands of fans! We do not sell individual cards, but instead sort cards by team. Our Topps-only “packs” average 25-50 cards per team across several year-ranges, mostly based on card design. All standard cards go for 50¢ each. “Notable stars” get 1 of 5 premium price-tags from $20+ (the Nolan Ryans, the Reggie Jacksons) down to $3 per, based on condition and going rates. Each “notable star” card is stored and shipped in a rigid individual Ultra•Pro® toploader card case, with the rest of the pack in a hard plastic card case. These packs will also arrive at a below market-value price-tag. Now, we admit not all the older cards (c. 1960s up into the early 1970s) were treated so well, this being the age of “flipping” for cards and card mistreatment in other heinous ways. (Baseball cards in bicycle spokes?!) But by the time the collection hits the late-1970s / early-1980s, most cards are in “near-mint to excellent” condition. These cards have not been PSA® (Professional Sports Authenticator) graded. But we followed the industry-standard PSA sports card numbered grading system to pin conditional values, a step that forced us to reject stacks of cards that were “fair to poor”.
